Gluteal muscle stretch

What are the Gluteal muscles?

The gluteal muscles are located in the buttocks of which Gluteus maximus is the largest and one of the strongest muscles in the body. The gluteus maximus muscle is responsible for movement of the hip and thigh.

The gluteal muscles can become tight after too much sitting, overuse, or over-exertion in sport.

If you sit at a desk all day, you should stand and walk every 30 minutes. This helps keep your glutes from becoming inactive, tight, and weak over time.

Pain and tightness in this area can also be associated with other problems such as sciatica and back problems. There are a variety of stretches some easier to perform than others. You can also use a roller to get deep into the Gluteal muscles

Gluteal stretch in lying-

Lying on your back with your knees bent. Now cross right ankle over left knee. With your hands interlaced behind the left thigh gently pull the left leg toward you to feel a stretch on the right side in the buttocks. Hold the stretch for 20 to 30 seconds, keeping upper body flat against floor.
